Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

Coach stipend overpayment

I received an overpayment of $8,000 for coaching. The mistake wasn't found till 5 months after the initial overpayment. Is there a statute of limitations for collecting the overpayment?

Even if there was a SOL, I'm sure it'd be more than 5 months.

You know full well that you should have reported the overpayment right away. So, you don't exactly come out smelling like a rose in this matter.

Good luck,

The elapsed time would need to be much more than 5 months for you to use that argument. I'm afraid you had better return the overpayment.

If you declared the income on your taxes, your tax accountant can help you correct that. If you did not declare it on your taxes, then you definitely want to return it before whoever overpaid decides to call it to the IRS' attention.

Sorry the news isn't better.
