Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

EEOC Investigations

As a Supervisor a former employee was removed from my location because he falsified company documents, then HR Terminated him. He has now filed a charge of discrimination against my now former company and myself with the EEOC. I left the employment after being reassigned to another location and then when that location closed I had to take a job with the competitor who won the contract because I was not offered a position. I was never given any disciplinary action against me just reassigned then not offered another position. My question is what kinds of liability can I be personally responsibile for? And do I need to retain an attorney during the investgation with the EEOC?

Re: EEOC Investigations

You cannot have any personal liability under federal law (what the EEOC investigates), but you CAN have liability under Washington State law. A good Plaintiff's lawyer will pursue state law claims also, possibly some against you. I think it's a good idea to consult with the lawyer who is representing the company, and also to have a consultation with a lawyer you chose for yourself. You may or may not need an attorney, depending on the facts of the matter.
