Your employer is probably on the skids, and probably just has no money to pay you. I would suggest telling your employer that you can't work for free, and he or she needs to find a way to cover the company's obligations to you. If that doesn't work, leave the company and apply for unemployment. Even though you are "quitting", you will still qualify for unemployment if you left your job because your employer stopped paying you.

Jobs are not easy to find right now, but if you are not getting paid any more, you already do not have one. The only reason to stay on would be if you have strong reason to believe that your employer's problems are short term and he or she will make the debt good soon. Even then, it would be a judgment call on your part.

If you have reason to believe that your employer has funds to pay you, but is not doing so, talk to an attorney about possibly writing a demand letter. It may also help. But there is no sense spending money on an attorney if your employer is on the brink of filing Chapter 7, and there is simply no money there.
