Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

Final Payroll Deductions

After recieving my final paycheck I saw the employer had deducted numerous items from my pay.

I had been running a project for him, using his truck. He deducted $200 to have the truck cleaned and another $250 for tools that he claims I had. I turned in a clean truck and all tools that were company tools.

What to do???

Re: Final Payroll Deductions

Probably your best recourse is to go to the Dept of Labor and Industries. Under a new 2006 law, disputes over wages can be filed with them. For an amount like this, filing a private lawsuit is not an option, and under the new law, L & I will investigate and provide you a means to collect if the employer is in the wrong.

Good luck!
