Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington
Hostile Work Environment
Supervisor going around telling several people that Mary is a tattletale in
relation to Mary telling management that Supervisor has not been
performing well as a supervisor. Supervisor told two employees that
Mary is a bitch. Supervisor going to his crew and attempting to get them
on his side. Supervisor goes over two bosses heads, to the Big Boss and
tells Big Boss he wants Mary off his crew because she is a tattletale, in an
attempt to get Big Boss on his side. Five crew members heard directly
from Supervisor that Mary is a tattletale, she is a bitch and he is trying to
get her off his crew. Supervisor has allowed his crew to use obscene
language in shop and has not said anything to prevent crew to speak
crudely (females and males on crew). Mary is a hard worker, exemplary
and is frustrated and extremely upset over the treatment by the
supervisor who has told everyone on his crew about her whistleblowing
activities and which has made some of her crew members resent her.
Do you think this qualifies as creating a hostile work environment?

Re: Hostile Work Environment
I can't tell for sure, but it is clear that Mary should be calling attorneys to go over the matter in more detail. It is very possible that this is a hostile environment at this time.
