Labor Laws Regarding Sales Commisions

I recently resigned my direct sales position with a packaging equipment and supplies manufacturer/distributor. I was a commission only, statutory employee, and I submitted/booked quite a few sales prior to my resignation that I have not yet been paid for. I was the sales person ''of record'' for these sales, however, the sales had not been invoiced or paid prior to my resignation. These sales have since been invoiced and paid to my former employer. Is my former employer obligated by law to pay commissions to me on these sales?

The answer may depend on any contract you have with your former employer. However, generally speaking, the rule is that an agent is entitled to commissions when he is the procuring cause of the sale--even if he leaves before the sale is consummated. Feel free to contact me to discuss further.
