Recording phone conversations

Can my wifes employer record phone conversations without the employees or public knowing about it. and can they read the emails also with out telling the employees

Your wife's employer cannot record phone calls without informing both parties to the call. That is illegal both as to the employees and as to the public on the other end of the line.

Courts have ruled in various ways about emails but several have found that an employee has no expectation of privacy in emails sent from a company computer using a company network.

Although one would think that both situations should have the same outcome, the phone calls seem to receive a greater level of protection.
