Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

Release of personal information

Is it ok for a former employer to give out your personal information such as phone number, address? Also is it ok for the same former employer to go out of her way to make sure you do not get a certain job by texting your personal information such as who you are married to the person or persons interviewing you?

Re: Release of personal information

Generally, no, these things are not okay.

You do not say who the former employer released your phone and address to. Presumably not a prospective employer, since you would have provided that information to such a person. However, they should not really be releasing that information to anyone except government authorities under appropriate court order.

Text messaging your private information, including information your prospective employer could not legally ask you in an interview, is definitely not permissible.
