Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington
Verbal Harrassment
What are my rights if I had a boss that verbally abused me (swearing at me, yelling, threatening body language) and there were no other employees around? When I tried to tell my GM about it, my other boss denied the allegations and instead got me fired by telling my GM that I was being insubordinate (which wasn't true!) My GM told me that he didn't believe me either. I don't know what to do

Re: Verbal Harrassment
For a start, apply for unemployment. I am not trying to be a smart aleck (insert other language here if you like). This is a tactical step. This forces them to provide evidence of your alleged misconduct. It will give you a better feel for what evidence they may think they have. It does not hurt to get an attorney's help with this from the start, but if funds are short, you can probably handle this yourself until or unless Employment Security denies your initial claim.
Other steps that might be available really depend on the details, whether you felt physically threatened, and whether the abuse was the result of an illegal motive. If the boss was just being a jerk, but was not threatening you, and was not acting on illegal motive (such as discrimination based on your membership in a protected group), you may not have any recourse. You may want to check with an employment law attorney. Many will do an initial, short consultation at no charge.
