Legal Question in Employment Law in Washington

Work Discrimination

My wife tells me that the medical insurance offered by her employer is better as you advance up the ladder -- that is, a regular full time person does not get the same program as a shift leader, etc. Is this legal or is this a form of discrimination?

Re: Work Discrimination

This is legal. It would only be illegal if the more advantageous program were only offered to some workers for illegal reasons. Examples would be better programs for younger workers, or better programs for men than for women. However, employers may offer benefits such as better pay, longer vacations and/or better medical plans to employees who have moved into higher positions in the company.

Re: Work Discrimination

This is discriminatory, but it is legal discrimination unless it some how affects prenant women or persons with disabilities.

Your wife should think of it as an incentive to try to move up in the company.

Best of luck,

Merry
