Disagree with new rental agreement

My rent is due on the 1st each

month. The landlord has sent me a

new month-to-month agreement

which includes rent increase and

other changes from past agreement

6 years old. He sent it email on the

7th of the month, and expects the

rent increases to start on the 1st.

There was no 30 day notice. How do

I deal with a rent agreement I do not

fully agree too and see that the

landlord adheres to 30 day notice

rule. I have issues with new

demands and refuse to sign

agreement as it stands, when does

rent increase go into effect while still

negotiating agreement?

You write to him, send it certified, and keep a copy.

There can be no rent increase without 30 days notice in writing.

You advise him that you will not agree to an improper rent increase and that the law does not require you to do that. You ask him to review the statute and ask him where it says that an email on the 7th demanding an increase on the 1st of the following month is valid.

Be really polite as the true intended audience is a judge, not your landlord.

Also, when you are on a month to month either of you can end a tenancy on 20 days notice so long as that notice is provided within the first ten days of the month or rental period to be effective at the end of the same rental period.
