Eviction

my landlord gave me a letter saying i was to move out in 22 days,[rec'd 9/29/05-out by 10/20/05 ] she had family that needed a place to stay,i told her we were looking at houses to buy,but we couldn't get out that fast, she just called me tonight,after i gave the rent check, saying get out or expect some company, that her family would move in with us. what are my rights? can she do anything like that & what do i do if she does ?

You are in luck - your landlord can give you a 20-day notice to terminate tenancy between the 1st and the 10th of the month to be effective for the end of the month.

She didn't get the timing right.

Arguably, that gives you until the end of the NEXT rental period. In your case, because she accepted the rent, you are good to go through the end of october. I'd plan on being out Halloween night.

You could just send her a letter, and say that her notice was confusing because it CANNOT be effective on the 20th of October, and invite her to give the notice properly in the first ten days of November to be effective November 3oth.

There. That's perfectly clear, right?

You cannot change the locks; however, if strangers show up with sleeping bags, call the cops.
