Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Washington

I juat have a quick question about my apt lease. My lease is for 12 months but I am planing on moving out of state in oct. but my lease ends at the end of dec. I talked to the apt manager and she said there is no way to break a lease with this apt. My question is can I move in oct. but still pay rent each month for the full lease agreement and not get penalized. I live in washington state.

? if you pay rent then your fine.

Alternatively, you can simply move out tell them you are breaking the lease and will not be paying rent. The result is generally that they will attempt to find new tenant, and if they do so and suffer no damages then they can't hold you responsible for much. Basically your maximum liability is the rent for the remaining time on the lease + any damages + incidental/consequential in the form of reasonable advertising costs (but they might already be doing advertising for other rooms).

The big downside for this is that they will keep a record of that. When asked by your future landlords they will tell how terrible of a person you are and that no one should ever rent to you. If the extra money for rent costs isn't breaking the bank this alone may be worth the 2x months rent.
