Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Washington
Landlord breaking lease to sell house
Our landlord recently broke our 1-year lease on a house in Everett, WA so she could sell the property. She only gave us a 30-day notice to leave. Do the laws require her to give us any compensation for breaking our lease early to sell? Was the notice she gave us adequate according to the law?

Re: Landlord breaking lease to sell house
No, 30 days notice is inadequate to break a lease on the part of either party.
Be sure the lease term has not expired, then write her and explain that you are not leaving without some consideration from her.
You could agree to break the lease - an accord and satisfaction - so long as there is new consideration for the new agreement.
Otherwise, cannot be done.
Hope this helps. Elizabeth
