landlord liability

I lost my personal belongings to a fire in my rented house. Fire inspector said fire was caused by faulty wiring. Isn't landlord liable for my loss?

Re: landlord liability

It is entirely possible that your landlord is, indeed, liable for the loss of your personal property.

This is a classic example of the futility of trying to contract around negligence - it cannot be done.

Many contracts will flatly state that the landlord is not liable for the tenant's personal property, but it is not so.

You should ask, in writing, for the name and contact information for your landlord's insurance carrier.

If you are unable to reach a reasonable resolution with that person, you should consider getting a lawyer to assist you.

Best of luck with this problem -

Powell
