Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Washington

landlord refuses rent payment thern tries to evict for non payment of rent

I am A single mom on Section 8 housing.I have a lease with current landlord that isn't due to expire until May 30 05. The owner ( landlord ) wants to sell the house and is trying to make me move out by not accepting the rent and evicting me for not paying the rent. Before we arrived at this point they ( landlords ) had tried a lot of other illegal ways of making me move including threats.

Re: landlord refuses rent payment thern tries to evict for non payment of rent

If you can PROVE that they are refusing to accept your rent, contact your Section 8 caseworker immediately in writing and tell that person what is going on.

There is no relationship between your tenancy and their ability to sell the house. They are simply selling it with a tenant, and that can be a benefit for the sale. They *do* have the right to show the place with 24 hours notice. You have to comply with reasonable requests for showings. You do not have to lose your tenancy because they are being stupid. You DO HAVE to alert Section 8 as to what is going on.

If you need more help do not hesitate to contact the Tenants union, Housing Justice in King County or me.

Just be prepared to back up what you are saying with proof. Best wishes on this one - Powell
