Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Washington
Personal Business
In June I lost my great paying job and therefore fell behind on not only my rent but also with all my bills. I soon caught up with rent but nothing else. Dec. I became behind on my utilities and my land lords bookkeeper called me to talk about it I told her my husband and i were really struggling and were filing bankruptcy. within hours oh that conversation she called another one of their tentants and told him all about my finantial status. The other tenant doesn't have his name on the lease and is just an aquantance to me. I don't feel this is acceptable. Is this leagle?

Re: Personal Business
Sorry about your financial distress. The laws regarding third party debt collectors don't apply to first party collectors, but I agree with you your manager was out of line to discuss your finances with a third party.
You haven't really been damaged in the eyes of the law, just embarassed.
If you want to take this a little further, go to the www.ag.wa.gov, which is the website for the State Attorney General and make a complaint with that office. Its available on line.
