If an apartment complex office has no public restroom is it legal for property management to force a site manager to allow use of their apartment restroom for public use even though the site manager apartment is part of their pay compensation?

Re: property management question

Sounds like a tremendous imposition on the apartment resident to me, no matter what their job description or compensation plan is.

The larger problem is that when an apartment is part of the compensation for a job, the RLTA is inapplicable to the employee and the apartment where they live. Therefore, the property can ignore the rules that generally apply to tenancies.

L&I rules regarding employment are a little different. You could contact L&I and ask for their opinion regarding the public use of the apartment manager's bathroom. If the employee complains, the employee could wind up losing their job AND their housing all at the same time.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
