Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Washington
roommate moved out - left stuff in garage
i had a roommate last year who refused to pay the lease because he wasn't planning on living here very long. i am on the lease, as are 4 other people. when he moved out he told one of my roommates he would be back for a ''couple boxes'' of stuff he left in the garage.
a year later, i was helping to clean out the garage for a potential workspace-renter and we found an entire room's worth of stuff from this ex-roommate, along with a lot of other stuff from previous roommates - things they had abandoned - books, furniture, etc. the workspace renter and i took boxes and boxes of books and sold them for under 100 dollars at a bookstore. we also took clothes to drop off at goodwill. MERE DAYS LATER, the guy showed up with a UHAUL and was angry and has filed a police report. he is also threatening about how he went to the used bookstore (i told him which one all the books were sold at) and is saying now that he has a copy of my driver's license, which the bookstore gave him! what should i do?

Re: roommate moved out - left stuff in garage
This would be easier had you followed the statutes regarding declaring abandonment of property.
I realize this sounds backwards, but . . .
you may well want to talk to an attorney. Elizabeth Powell
