security deposits

if you are moving out of an apartment and you put down a security deposit, does the security deposit cover damages to the apartment and can the landlord seek further payment for damages other than the amount of the security deposit?

It all depends on the exact wording of the contract but, generally, yes on both counts. Yes, the security deposit can cover costs of damages and, yes, the landlord can go after the tenant for damages over and above the security deposit.
