Tenant collecting Twice the Amount of Deposit
I am taking my landlords to Small Claims Court this Friday. I am suing for the exact amount of deposit owed. While preparing my case I found the Washington State Law; Return of Deposits (RCW 59.18.280). This law states that �If the tenant takes the landlord to court, and it is ruled that the landlord intentionally did not give the statement or return the money, the court can award the tenant up to twice the amount of the deposit.�

My question is: If I win can I request being paid twice that amount, even though when I filed with small claims I only filed for the exact amount of the deposit owed?

Depends on the Judge, but you can always ask. Go for it.
