Legal Question in Military Law in Washington
Financial Privacy
Does a military command have the right to open mail containing financial documents sent to them by a civilian who is not a debt collector. Does this constitute a violation of privacy laws. Can these pieces of mail be withheld from the servicemember?

Re: Financial Privacy
I would not think the command could open mail without a warrant unless incident to an ongoing investigation. You should contact JAG if this has happened.
