Legal Question in Personal Injury in Washington

Personnel injury

I currently have a personnel injury claim in progress. I have had two dates for a mitigation hearing that for one reason or another has been cancelled. I owe my attorney 1300.00 dollars. He keeps telling me tha he feels very confident with this case but he continues to make a big deal of ths bill. I cant help but feel I am not getting the whole story. Thirteen hundred doesnt seem to be that big of a deal? the personnel injury is for 500000.

I don't understand - what's your question?

You need to look at the representation agreement that you signed with your attorney. It probably says that you have to pay all costs when due. As a business-person, the attorney needs to be reimbursed for the costs he advanced on your behalf.

If the agreement says that you don't need to pay costs until the case is settled, you should point this out to him.

Anyway, if you're supposed to be paying him each month for costs, and you haven't been, he may think that he can't trust you and may feel less confident in representing you.

If you end up in a dispute with the attorney, the WA State Bar Assoc. has people who will try to resolve the matter for you.

Good luck!
