Spousal responsibility for accident that occured before marriage
My wife was at fault in a car accident that occured 3 years ago, which was 2 years before we got married. There is now a personal injury claim that grossly exceeds my wife's insurance coverage at the time. Hopefully the insurance company will be able to settle it down within the coverage limits, but in case the insurance is found to be insufficient how at-risk are my (our) assets? My wife had nearly no assets and I came into the marriage with quite a bit, but I had nothing to do with the accident.
Today I received an Interrogatories that is asking for my (the spouse's) social security no., salary, tax returns, etc. Do I really need to provide all this personal financial info for this case?

Your wife has been sued for something substantially in excess of the insurance policy she had at that time. This is serious stuff -- you should ask your wife's LAWYER -- her own insurance company I'm sure has hired one to defend her.
My advice is to make an appointment with that attorney, and bring in a list of questions. This lawyer knows the FACTS of your wife's case, and for that reason SHOULD be able to give you better advice on issues like yours than anyone, presuming the attorney knows his or her stuff!
