Re: Apartment Move out

The Landlord has 14 days to advise the tenant of any reason why the landlord will be returning less than the full deposit.

Deposits can only be taken when there is a written agreement containing a checklist detailing the condition of the premises at the beginning of the tenancy. The Landlord also has to tell the tenant where the money is being kept.

The statute is found at RCW 59 18 280.

The tenant's duty is to advise the post office of their new address. The tenant is not required to remind the landlord of the landlord's obligations.

That said it is a very good idea to take pictures at the time of the move out.

Hope that answers your question. Elizabeth Powell
