Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington
Cercion for final paycheck
I was fired. Falsely accused for giving away a doughnut.I did not ''give it away.'' I hit the wrong button on register. Next morning came into work and found out I was fired.I was devastated, embarrased, and in shock. He would not even discuss this with me. I came in Friday to pick up my final paycheck and he said before he would give it to me I had to sign a statement as to why I was fired. The whole thing was a lie and told him no I would not. He said''sign it or no check. If you don't like it, sue me''. I am a single Mom with bills and he totally screwed me up! Next week I get check in mail and written on check it says''By cashing this check I agree to terms of being fired.'' Also I was missing about 20 hrs on the check! I need an idea as to what I can do about this mess. I have not cashed the check. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear something from you.

Re: Cercion for final paycheck
This really isn't a real estate matter. My suggestions: Either (1) get an initial consultation with an employment attorney -- find one that will give you a free consultation; or (2) Initiate a small claims court action against the former employer for the amount due for wages. If you can afford it, don't cash the check. The small claims court action will cost you around $20 plus service fees. Go to your county district court for a packet or instructions on how to initiate one.
Probably start with a consultation with an employment law attorney and depending on the results of that consider initiating a small claims court action. And no, I don't practice in employment law.
Good luck.
