Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington
can i file lein
i entered into a verbal contract to do remodel work for a truck instead of money, i was given a year to pay off the truck in work. i painted the inside of the owners house and installed approx 80% of his pergo floor, when he decided to quit. i had eight hours till deadline and he quit. It was possible to finish the job with the time left. now, he has paint and most of his floor done, and im out a truck, and the labor. not to mention the trucks engine maintenance costs. Can i place a lein to recoup my loss?

If you are a registered contractor you can. Otherwise, you'll have a problem.
WA will enforce verbal contracts. You performed, to the extent possible. His decision to stop allowing you to perform could be considered a breach.
This isn't a small claims matter. In small claims you can sue for money, but not for the truck.
If you are in Pierce County, you can contact the Bar Association for help finding an attorney who can help you.
