Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington
HOA Assessments
I live in a condo and the HOA has assessed over 20K for each of 67 units. These assesments are supposedly to redo the siding and windows. These costs seem excessive as that would come out to about 180K per builiding. What can I do to figure out if something is not right with this situation?

Re: HOA Assessments
You can ask, as a member of the HOA, to review the documentation regarding the inspection, necessity for repair and the reasonableness of the bid(s) and the resulting assessment.
You are entitled to see the basis for the transaction. If it doesn't hold water, contact an attorney who specializes in HOA issues.
You could use avvo.com (a v v o) to help you identify that attorney.
