Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington

property agreement or promissory note

Hi, I just recently sold my family home and purchased another home with my partner. I would like to find the correct legal letter to document both of your down payments. Is the document used for this real estate contract called a promissory note? What is the correct promissory note? Both of us put 60% down on this home together. I'm concerned because I paid eighty percent and he paid the other twenty percent of the total amount of down payment. Washington State is a community property state even if a couple is not married. We both have agreed to have legal documentation regarding how much each of us have paid towards the down payment. Thank you for your time.

Re: property agreement or promissory note

I suggest you consult with an attorney on this one. You probably want a Cohabitation Agreement that spells out who owns what share of the property. You can probably plan on spending about $300-600 on such a document.
