Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington
Renters damage deposit
After 15 years in the same unit they want to charge me $500.00 for carpet replacement in addition to my $200.00 damage deposit. During my living there I had my carpets cleaned 3 time and after the 1st carpet cleaning I mention to them about the black (grease) spot that would re-appear 3 days later.

Re: Renters damage deposit
That's rich - you live there for 15 years, during which time they do not replace the carpet, and now they are saying you destroyed it? TIME destroyed it and their failure to maintain.
Carpet is an asset; it devalues over time. The useful lifespan of carpet is under 12 years. Therefore, they have completely devalued it as an asset three years ago and now are requiring you pay to replace it.
