Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington

residency

here is the scenario: recently my wife wanted to remove our daughters boyfriend from the house. The police were called, when they arrived they told my wife. Legally there was nothing for them to do. Because he had established residency at our house, which we have bought. What rights do we have? They paid some rent. Not all of it. There have been domestic problems between our daughter and her boyfriend. What rights do we have as owners? What does residency mean in this situation?

Re: residency

There are two ways to lawfully remove someone from real property in Washington. You can either remove them via an unlawful detainer process, or via ejectment. Each process has its own requirements, and you can do one or the other but not both. With the brief facts that you've provided, I would surmise that you'd have to undertake the unlawful detainer process since rent was paid to you. If there is any evidence of domestic violence, it would up to your daughter to seek protection, and the boyfriend's removal from the home.
