Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington

selling property

My father and I owned a piece of property as joint tenants with rights of survivorship. He has passed away and I am trying to sell my property. I was told at closing that my step siblings had to sign off on the sale even though my name is on the title. Is this correct?

Re: selling property

WHo told your step-sibs had to sign off on the deed? Are the step-sibs on the deed? Are you sure it was a JTROS and not a tenancy in common?

In order to properly suss out the answer to your question, a lawyer is going to have to review information about your father, the property, and your father's will (or lack thereof).

You need to talk to a local attorney who understands real property and probate issues.

Hope this helps. Elizabeth Powell
