Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington

Selling a share of a property

I have a share of a property in Canada, I live in the state of WA. I want to sell my percentage to a friend of a friend, and I want to make sure that all is legal. I need a recommendation of a lawyer that could assist me with this transaction.

Thank you.

Re: Selling a share of a property

You don't provide a zip code that would identify where in Washington you are located. That makes it tough for me to make a recommendation for you.

Law, like politics, is local.

That said, in Washington real property transactions are handled by limited practice officers who have permission from the Bar to essentially practice law related to real property transactions. So, you don't need a lawyer to handle the transaction so long as you have a broker.

The real issue here though is that the property is located in Canada. Thus, Canadian real property law applies and you need to consult with a broker or a lawyer in Canada for the accurate answer.

I'm not licensed there, so I cannot tell you how to do the transaction there.

Sorry to be so unhelpful! Powell
