Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington

Termination Notice

The Apartment Complex that my 24 year old daughter and her 3 children live in, have asked her to move out. There has been no reason, given by the landlord, for the termination except for the fact that the 6 month lease will end next month. She is wondering what to do next and is sure that she does not have the money to move out within 20 days. We realize that a landlord can ask the tenant to move out at anytime during a month to month verbal lease, but is there a way to legally ''stall'' the system long enough to save money to move out? She is by no means rich and works at a job that pays $7.50 an hour.

Re: Termination Notice

Unless your daughter lives in an apartment in Seattle proper, where there is a specific ordinance regarding eviction of tenants, she will have to move or face legal action. The law is clear that in a month-to-month tenancy, which seems to be what your daughter has, a 20 day notice is all that the landlord has to give her. There is no stall tactic that coul dbe used. Does she get child support for the 3 children? If not, then that situation needs to be addressed so that she could afford a different and better plaxce to live.
