Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington

Is a verbial aggrement a binding contract on a lease in the state of wa.

I was told I could lease building yesterday and gave my rent check , and got keys , statrted too move into building , and tenant next door decided he wanted the space and called landlord , and now they say I the other tentant will be getting the space I was promissed . I was going to get a lease made up by landlord by monday , but then they callled today to tell my other tenant would get it instead .

Generally you can't do a lease of real estate orally. It is prohibited by the Statute of Frauds.
