Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Washington
Washington State Law
I live in Las Vegas, NV, my boyfriend lives in Washington State and owns a house there. He wants me to sign as a co-owner but said that I have to be in Washington to sign the papers. True?

Re: Washington State Law
Actually, he is the one that has to sign not you. He would however have to pay a transfer tax. In Nevada it is 1/2 of 1%. He might also have to pay a federal gift tax if the value of the transfer is over $12,000. Thus, if his equity is over $24,000, he will have to pay a tax or pay an accountant to file a return that says he is using the unified credit.
