Legal Question in Tax Law in Washington
Income tax evasion
I work at a public hospital district in WA State. We are required to do criminal history background checks on all employees. Does income tax evasion equal to a felony or first degree theft? I need to know if this disqualifies applicants for employement.

If by income tax evasion you are referring to a federal offense, it is indeed a felony. See 26 U.S.C. 7201. A state income tax evasion conviction may or may not be a felony, depending on the law of the particular state.
