Legal Question in Traffic Law in Washington

DWLS in year 2000

I was pulled over 2-16-2000 for DWLS in the 2nd Degree. After this moved to Arizona and never it got it taken care of. I have been in AZ since 2007, and recently moved back to Washington State since my wife and I had our daughter. Now I found that there was a warrant for my arrest that was just re-activated the month I moved back (November of 07). I went and got the warrant quashed, and am going to face sentencing now. A friend mentioned something about Statues of Limitation, which he said was 7 years. Does anyone think something like this would apply to me and my situation, even though DWLS is a Criminal offense....I think.....

The issuance of a warrant tolls or stops the statute from running. If you had never been charged, then the statute woul dhave run after three years. Your primary concern now is to be relicensed in Washington. Were you licensed to drive in AZ? I believe that WA and AZ are members of the Interstate Compact on Driver's Licenses and your status as suspended would have been reported to all other states. My suggestion: get a good lawyer who knows and does traffic and criminal traffic law on a daily basis in your area before you go to court. Good Luck!
