Legal Question in Traffic Law in Washington

being pulled over without a reason

Does a cop need probable cause to pull you over, I had a cop pull me over, when i was sitting at a light and pulled me over with now reason. i was driving on a suspended license, but for no reason he decided to run my plates. he gave me a ticket without me signing it, and let me drive home without impounding my car. will this hold up in court?

Re: Cop has statutory authority

A law enforcement officer is expressly authorized by law to pull over a vehicle that is registered to an owner whose driving privilege is suspended.

If the vehicle is not registered to you and it is unreasonable to suspect that the registered owner is operating the vehicle, e.g. you are age 20, blond hair while registered owner is age 75, gray hair, you may have a basis for a dismissal because of an unlawful seizure.

Consult an attorney.
