Legal Question in Traffic Law in Washington

My son, age 17, got his first speeding ticket in Washington state. Can he request deferred adjudication? What good is that? Can he request mitigation hearing to lower his fine or go to driving school to keep a clean record? But unfortunately, I live outside of Washington and won't be able to attend. Can I write a letter for him to take to court by himself?

This is probably worth speaking to a lawyer about, in the area of the court where his ticket has been filed.

If he is on an intermediate license, then a speeding ticket can result in loss of license. If he's not, your priority in how to handle the case is probably different.

The deferred disposition is an OK outcome, but is commonly more expensive than just paying the ticket. And a driver can generally only have one deferred in a seven year period,

A local lawyer would know about the options and best route to take in that court.
