Change in our current will

we have a few changes that need to be done with our will. Can we make the changes and it would be valid or do we need to take it back to the lawyer.

You can do a codicil to your will, and there is no requirement to have a lawyer draft it. The advantage of a lawyer is that you will reduce the risk of an ambiguous document.
