Do I have a right to check the estate accounts activities?
The exec of my fathers will refuses to let any heirs know what is being done in the estate of my father, It was stated in the will to de divided up equally among 4 siblings. It has been nearly a year, and the exec refuses to answer any questions about money in the estate account. I would like to know if I have a right to call the bank myself and ask for a statement of the activity on this account. I am named in the will to recieve 25% of all assests.

Maine law provides an heir with the right to formally request through the Probate Court an inventory and accounting of the estate by the personal representative. I assume that Washington law is similar. However, the bank or other financial institutions in possession of estate assets are only authorized to disclose information to the personal representative, and not individual heirs.

As a beneficiary to the estate you have a right to request an inventory and accounting in Washington State. The inventory would provide date of death balances for the estate assets. I suggest you contact a probate lawyer in Washington State to assist you in this matter.
