Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

Death of Mother

My mother died 1 week ago and we have been unable to contact her lawyer. There is no answer (only a machine) at his office and home. Do I need to contact another attorney to get the ball rolling so to speak.

Bets Regards,

John T. Jones

Re: Death of Mother

You don't need to file probate instantly (I generally try to start within a month, but have probated estates that were over 10 years old). Some preliminary things you should do are: get several certified copies of the death certificate, find the Will (if there is one), track down the heirs (people who would take if there was no will) and legatees (people named in the Will).
