Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

Debts or obligations of the deceased

I have been told that my estate is liable for my debts or obligations if I die.My concern is that if my condo bldg. is destroyed from Earthquake damage and and the owners vote to rebuild the bldg.,assume I do not live through the Earthquake,is my estate obligated to participate in the expense of the rebuild ?

Re: Debts or obligations of the deceased

I would say theoretically, but this is a highly speculative question, because I do not have your condo association agreement (or rules) at hand. I assume you have homeowners (condo) insurance, that would pay for your share of the rebuild, and then the new condo could be sold and that would be an estate asset. If this is a real concern you should discuss this with an attorney whose practice is focused on condominium and home owners associations.
