Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington
Duties of Personal Representative
My sister is Personal Representative of our mother's estate who died recently. In the will it said her property will be divided evenly between her four children. We all received copies of the will. The only thing my mother really had was her home and acreage. The house and land sold 3 days after her death and the money was put into an estate account. The only one that knows how much the house sold for is of course our sister who is PR. We have know idea how much money is in the account but we do know it is over $150,000. I was handling her debts before her death and she had only one credit card bill which I gave to my sister to pay. My other sister asked for a gift letter so they could use the money as down payment on a house. The gift letter asks for the amount she will receive, the bank and the account number. My other sister the PR refused to give the amount or the account number. Can she do this? Can we find out how much money is in this account and how would we do that. She has an attorney handling the probate.

Re: Duties of Personal Representative
You need to get your own lawyer.
How much the property sold for is public information; go ask your county assessor for the records of the sale. The probate itself is also public information; you can go to the courthouse and look at the file. There may be useful information for you there.
Reflecting on your question though, I would strongly recommend you get your own lawyer. Ask your county bar association for the name of a few,and go interview them and find one you like.
Good luck.
