Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

Am i entitled to any of the money my fathers inheriting?

My biological father is inheriting $180,000. I just turned 18 and I've never gotten child support from him. My mom had a paternity test done when i was born but never turned it in to child support enforcement because he was always in and out of jail. So theres no back child support. My mother is now in jail and has no way to help me with this, I've baasicall y raised myself so i think i should get a fair share of his inheritance and so does his family. Is there any way i could go about doing that before his court date on October 17th?

Re: Am i entitled to any of the money my fathers inheriting?

You are incorrect that "there is no child support". You need to contact the nearest support enforcement office and explain what happened. The sooner you do this the better. Back support is owed to your mom.

Your mom may have a claim on any money your father receives, however he receives it.

You may also have a cause of action for unpaid support.

You may, based on that, have a basis to ask a court to seize money that your father is due to inherit but you have to bring this to the court's attention.

The State may have an interest here as well if your mother received benefits to help care for you while you were growing up.

Once you correct your basic underlying assumption the rest of your issues may well fall into place.

Hope this helps. Powell
