Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

father passed away

my father passed away early march. Our family found out that he has a lot of money, property, homes, and cars equaling out to over 500,000 dollars. My question is:when all is said and done is it true everyone has to sign some sort of paper stating that its equal and agreed upon how the money and assets are spread out? the one rule is it has to be spread out equally. if i dont agree does this change anything? or does it not matter? There are 6 kids with myself included. Things have not been done right and everyone is taking little things here and there. They take batteries from cars, pictures, cameras, lap-tops,computers etc... anything and everything. They are all taking there junk and dumping it on his property. Is there anyway to stop the process once i see anything that is done un-equally or is there nothing i can do?

Re: father passed away

Is this estate in probate? I take it from what you have written there is no will (equal shares is the default in an intestate estate). If this estate has not been filed into probate, you or one of your siblings should do it immediately. Once an administrator is appointed, somebody will be in charge (and more importantly responsible) for the estate, both protection of the assets and proper distribution.
