Irrevocable Insurance Trust-name change
I have an Irrevocable Life Insurance Trust which is called 'surname'Family Trust and my name has changed due to divorce (to--name removed--so I would like to change the name of the Trust to the--'new surname'--Family Trust and of course change the Insurance Policy owner & Beneficiary from old surname to new surname Trust. Since I am told that I cannot amend the trust, it being irrevocable, without destroying the estate tax shelter, how do I go about changing the name-no other term of the trust will be changed.
It seems like that should be allowed under these circumstances.

I agree that the change you are suggesting is not to the substance of the trust, but to the name. Contact the atorney who wrote the trust and ask him or her to change the name for you to your new name.
