money left from a death

my husband just recently met his half sister;she then told him about their dad leaving them some money when he passed away....when he told his sister (the ones he grew up with)and the one came out and told him that she had to use his money to buy her a home and that was it..she wouldn't answer his questions and just walked out..can we doing anything?

You really need to go talk to a local lawyer who practices in probates and estates.

You don't indicate whether your husband's father was married when he died or not, and whether or not there was a probate. Start with his death certificate. Figure out where he was domiciled when he died, and go to that county's courthouse and look up the probate file, if any.

If there was no will, then your husband was entitled to his share along with his other siblings, half or not.

If there was a will, it will say what your husband was supposed to take.

I agree that his sister's comments are less than reassuring. But go do the legwork first before trying to assert bad faith or fraud. If you can prove your case, you have a strong likelihood of having a court agree with you that the money was not his sister's to take and convert.
