Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Washington

What is the priority of Federal Income Tax?

Where in the order of payment of debts for a Washington estate do Federal Income taxes come in? RCW 11.76.110 shows taxes owing to the STATE (of Washington) as being fifth in line after costs of adminstration. If the estate is insufficient to even cover the costs of adminstration, then where does Federal Income Tax come in? I've had to pay the lawyer out of my pocket to handle a small estate since there are no assets and now there are $2500 in taxes due for the final return. Where does that come from? Thanks!

You say that youve paid a lawyer $2,500 to handle this- estate? If thats true, then why are you asking this question to the BBS and not to your lawyer? Generally, its unethical for another lawyer to communicate with a represented party without the partys lawyers permission.
